After receiving his Red
Cross Junior Lifesaving certificate at the age of eight years old,
the swim lesson program in his Michigan hometown had no classes
left that a child of his age could participate in. At the age
of nine Jim began swimming competitively on the Golden Serpents
Swim Club and has remained involved in the sport ever since.
Jim started coaching in 1984 at the University Club in Lansing
Michigan. In 1984 he also began officiating swim meets.
Jim was Aquatics Director at the Little Harbor Club from
1985-1987. In 1988, Jim began a business career but kept on
swimming to stay fit and intermittently competed in Master's meets
through the 90's.
After a brief hiatus
from swimming after the birth of his children, Jim returned to
swimming in 2003 and resumed competing in Masters
competitions. A former member and Secretary on the Mavericks
Swimming Association board of directors, he resumed coaching in
2007. Jim loves coaching and enjoys working with entry level
swimmers focusing on building a solid stroke and technique and
developing a foundation that will serve athletes over the course of
their swimming career.
